In these challenging economic times, our national and local charitable organizations are more important than ever in meeting unmet needs in our communities. Our churches, charities and civil associations fill in the gaps and provide a personal touch that government, no matter how well intentioned, cannot fill.

We live in one of the most generous communities in our nation and have always answered the call from neighbors in need.

We would like to feature various local and national charities which are aiding our nation and community and hear from you about how a charity with which you are familiar is aiding our nation, state or community and how your neighbors might get involved.

Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure
What began in 1982 as a promise by Nancy Brinker to Susan G. Komen, her sister dying of breast cancer, has become the nation and the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting for a cure for breast cancer. With events like the annual Komen Race for the Cure, they have invested more than $1.2 billion in the fight against breast cancer around the world.
