Post-Hurricane Irene Update

Dear Friend,

With Hurricane Irene now gone from Virginia, we are now faced with cleanup operations and power restoration efforts for a number of days.  Below is information on the storm's impacts and contact information that might prove useful to you in the coming days.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has focused on reopening roads that were impacted.  For a complete listing of road closures in Northern Virginia, visit  http://www.511virginia.org

Dominion crews in Virginia have been assessing damage and working with local emergency personnel today to return electrical service to 1.2 million customers who lost power, focusing first on public health and safety facilities.  The Hurricane Irene restoration effort is the company's second largest behind only Hurricane Isabel.

Since this morning, Dominion has moved from 120,166 customers without power in Northern Virginia down to 45,286 as of 4:45pm.  If you are without power, call Dominion.  The 24-hour customer service number is 866/DOM-HELP (866/366-4357).

The Virginia Department of Health has provided some useful tips to stay safe following a natural disaster that you can read here.

Cox Communications has deployed technicians who are working to assess and then restore service to impacted customers.   In the Northern Virginia and Fredericksburg area nearly 85% of Cox residential and business customers werenot impacted with service outages during the storm.  If your power is working but are unable to access Cox services, you can try reseting all of your Cox equipment.  To reset equipment, power down and unplug the device(s), wait a few seconds, and then re-start. Please also know that power could be affecting service even if a customer's power is on as the Cox lines do not follow Dominion Power lines.  If you have an issue with your Cox service, you can call 703-378-8422.

Fairfax and Loudoun County government offices, public schools and the courthouse are scheduled to be open on time on Monday.

Again, as your Delegate, please feel free to contact my office if I might be of help to you!  You can contact my office at [email protected] or 703-772-7168.

Sincerely,
