Delegate Barbara Comstock Promotes New Telework Tax Credit

Delegate Barbara Comstock Promotes

New Telework Tax Credit

October 31 Deadline For Application For Credit This Year

McLean, VA - Delegate Barbara Comstock recently participated in a free webinar to educate businesses and individuals on her recently passed Telework Tax Credit legislation aimed at encouraging private sector telework.  Applications for the new Telework Tax Credit need to be received by October 31 - the end of this month.

During the 2011 Legislative Session, Delegate Barbara Comstock introduced and passed legislation creating a Telework Tax in Virginia. The legislation provides for a tax credit of up to $1,200 per employee, up to $50,000 per organization, for eligible telework expenses incurred during taxable years 2012 and 2013. The bill was a recommendation of the Governor's Reform Commission and supported by the Northern Virginia Technology Council which has long been a leader in promoting telework policies, as well as the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce, the Virginia Small Business Partnership, and most of our Northern Virginia delegation in the General Assembly.

Visit www.teleworkva.org to view the presentation from the webinar and learn more about the tax credit and how to apply. To be eligible for the tax credit in 2012 businesses must apply to the Virginia Department of Taxation by October 31, 2011.

Delegate Comstock issued the following statement:

"I encourage businesses large and small to take advantage of this opportunity to promote telework in their workplaces. Teleworking is a 21st centurywin-win workplace option that can reduce traffic congestion and air pollution, as well as cut gasoline consumption and dependency on foreign oil.  It also helps provide a more family friendly workplace that gives Moms and Dads more time at home and less time sitting in traffic. Telework gives employees the flexibility they need to meet daily demands and can be a great recruitment tool for businesses. Employers get the benefit of increased productivity, improved morale, fewer sick leave days used, better worker retention, and reduced costs for office space. I first started working on telework issues in Congressman Frank Wolf's office almost 20 years ago and I am pleased to have the opportunity to continue to promote this valuable option to my constituents. "
