McLean, VA -  On Tuesday, May 8, Delegate Barbara Comstock (R-McLean) joined Governor McDonnell and Northern Virginia colleagues in the General Assembly for a bill signing ceremony of legislation to protect victims of sexual and domestic violence.  Delegate Comstock's legislation, HB 546, was included and cracks down on those engaged in human trafficking and provides additional penalties and tools for prosecutors.  HB 546 addresses the growth of gangs such as MS-13 operating prostitution rings in our area who are now engaged in this heinous crime.  These criminal traffickers have victimized women and girls in our area, exploiting them as part of their crime operations.

STATEMENT FROM DELEGATE COMSTOCK:

"I am pleased to have passed this legislation this year and to join with the Governor and my colleagues to highlight the passage of this and other legislation to protect victims of domestic violence and human trafficking.  My bill, HB 546, grew out of work by Fairfax County Police investigators who recognized the growth of gangs being involved in human trafficking crimes as part of their criminal enterprises.  I will continue to work with law enforcement to put an end to these unspeakable crimes against women and children."
