Lyme Disease Awareness Month
Thursday, May 6, 2010

5.05.10  Lyme Disease Awareness Month.

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month in the Commonwealth.  On Monday night, I joined Congressman Frank Wolf, Delegate Tom Rust and Delegate Tag Greason for an informative Forum on Lyme Disease in Loudoun County.

Speakers at the forum included Dr. David Goodfriend, director of Loudoun County Health Department, and Dr. Christine Coussens, with the Institute of Medicine.  Dr. David Gaines, from the Virginia Department of Health, also traveled from Richmond to attend the forum and to demonstrate the Department’s commitment to focus on this growing problem.   Over 100 people from Loudoun County and Fairfax County came to the forum to address the continued challenges to hundreds of sufferers of Lyme Disease in our communities. We are all committed to making sure that chronic Lyme Disease and the growing and insidious threat of this disease is given continued attention from our state and national public health officials.
