DULLES CORRIDOR METRORAIL PROJECT

REMINDER! Major Road Shift of Eastbound Route 7 Happens Tonight in Tysons Corner

A significant lane shift will take place overnight tonight on Eastbound Route 7 between the Sheraton Hotel/Dulles Toll Road and the Best Buy shopping center, east of the Gosnell Road/Westpark Drive intersection in Tysons Corner.

Crews will shift the lanes as much as 40 to 60 feet south as part of construction of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project. This will require staggered lane closings so crews can pave and re-stripe the lanes. Work will begin at 9:30 p.m. and will be completed by 5 a.m. before the morning rush hour begins.

Drivers are being warned to use extreme caution and watch for police and signage in this area overnight.

This road shift will make room for construction of the future Tysons West Metrorail Station in the median of Route 7 between Spring Hill Road and Tyco Road/Westwood Center Drive. The 50-plus-foot-wide work zone will be in place for the next three years while the station is built.

Tonight's work includes the closing of the last remaining mid-block left turn area in the construction zone on Route 7. When the shift is completed, drivers will be allowed to make left turns and U-turns only at the existing signalized intersections along Route 7: Tyco Road/Westwood Center Drive, Spring Hill Road and Gosnell/Westpark Drive.

Project management continues to track the path of Hurricane Earl in the Atlantic. Should the area be impacted by this storm tonight, the work will be postponed.

The Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project is a 23-mile extension of Metro's existing Orange Line. The project is managed and owned by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. The design-build construction contractor is Dulles Transit Partners.
