VDOT's Mobilization Plan for Jan. 31, 2011

Status Report:  Monday, January 31, 2011, 2:30p.m.

The Northern Virginia District will be mobilized to level 3 by 3:00 p.m. The concern is the Monday afternoon as well as the Tuesday morning rush hours. Anti-icing/salting activities will be performed. This plan will be adjusted as weather conditions warrant.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORECAST:

Tonight: A chance of freezing rain and sleet. Cloudy, with a low around 24. East wind between 3 and 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Tuesday:
Freezing rain likely before 11am, then a chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 34. Light east wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible.
Tuesday Night:
Rain. Low around 34. East wind between 3 and 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible

Current Weather Conditions:  

No Precipitation, Temperature range hovering around 33 degrees;  

Road Conditions:

Dry

DISTRICT SEVERE WEATHER OPERATIONS:  

The Northern Virginia District will mobilize to a level 3 by 3PM this afternoon, mobilizing over 1500 trucks district-wide, with approximately 950 in Fairfax County.  This number may increase or decrease as warranted.
